we start by removing the existing driveway using either a excavator or by hand depending on the size of the driveway. on most driveways we will dig down around 300mm. Once the existing driveway has been removed, we carefully assess the surface to ensure that it is level and free from any debris. This is important to ensure that the new driveway is well-constructed and will last for years to come.
Once we have the required depths we then level the driveway using limestone type 3 what is perfect for resin as its a lot more permeable then limestone type 1. The limestone is layed at a depth around 150mm and is compacted in 50mm layers to giving a strong subase.
now we are ready to install your edging of choice this can be anything from blockpaving to granite we have many options for you to choose from. we lay are edings in a 3/1 ratio of sharpsand and cement giving us a nice strong beed for the edging
When it comes to resin, it needs to have a permeable base for the water to drain through. We use a special type of concrete that allows this to happen while still keeping its strength. The concrete is laid at 150mm thick. Once we have the levels correct, we then use a compactor to compact the concrete down to the required level. This not only makes the concrete harder but also makes it nice and smooth to resin on.
.
The resin is laid at 20mm for driveways and 15mm for paths and patios. This might not sound like a lot, but resin has amazing strength qualities. On a driveway, it can hold up to 7.5 tons. The resin is laid by hand and mixed in a special mixer to ensure the glue has covered all of the stone
Now the project is completed, we stand back and admire the finished product. But we are not finished yet, we have to secure the front of the property to make sure nobody walks or drives on it. As resin needs 24 hours to dry enough to walk on and 72 hours for parking vehicles on.
